Saad Zaglol Pasha

An Egyptian political leader. Saad Zaglol was educated at al Azhar University Cairo. Jamaluddin Afghani, the famous Muslim religious teacher, had a great influence on him. Zaglol founded an important political party, the WAFD. Saad was the editor of Al-Waqaih-Al-Misriya and also used to write for other newspapers. In 1882 he was accused of joining a secret political party. He was arrested and released in 1919 by the British for his efforts to gain independence for his country. Saad Zaglol Pasha advocated non-co-operation with the British government and was again arrested in 1924 when he was called to form the first cabinet of independent Egypt. I It was due to the efforts of people like Zaglul Pasha, the father of Egyptian independence, and his mentor Jamaluddin Afghani that Arab nations strove for independence and were free by the end of Second World War.
