The most powerful Fatmid Caliph, who founded al Qahirah and made it his capital in 972-73.
He succeeded his father al Mansur in 953. His reign extended to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and even to Sicily. His famous general Jawhar conquered Egypt in 969 and founded the new capital al Qahira (Cairo) just to the north of the old city al Fustat in 972. His family ruled till the second half of the 11th century.
