An Abyssinian who rose from being a slave to a great influence and command in the Deccan. When Ahmad Nagar was taken by the Moghuls in 1600, Malik Ambar taking advantage of the happenings in the Delhi government, owing to the rebellion of Sultan Salim, the death of Akbar and revolt of Prince Khusro, dared to seize several of the Imperial districts. He at last surrendered to the Prince Shahjahan and continued to be loyal till his death.
