Khaliq Ahmad Nizami

Modern India's foremost medievalist. Kahliq's career started in Aligarh Muslim University where he rose up to vice-chancellor in 1974 and where he died. He authored many books in Urdu and English and contributed to The Encyclopaedia of Islam, new edition. Khaliq was one of the founder trustees of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and a senior consultant to the Centre's Atlas Project. After his first notable book, The Life and Times of Shaikh Farid-u'd-Din Ganj-i-Shakar, he became famous in the research into Some Aspects of Religion and Politics in India During the Thirteenth Century. Kaliq also served India's ambassador to Syria (1975-77) Khaliq Ahmad Nizami was born in Meerut and had a distinguished career as an academic scholar and a prolific writer.
