On the night of the 15th of April, it is understood the El Wafa hospital was surrounded by Israeli Machaver tanks. There was a battle between Palestinian freedom fighters and Israeli invaders. Five tank shells were fired into the hospital and many other 'rounds'. Miraculously, not one of the 120 patients were killed or injured but the conscious ones were very shocked. This hospital specialises in caring for severe head injuries, strokes and spinal cord injury, the majority resulting from Israeli action. There was widespread damage; the water tank on the roof flooded the hospital below. Preliminary surveys show that at least 30,000 dollars worth of repairs are necessary.
Helping Hands is working with a local NGO in the ancient city of Thebes in Luxor (on the West Bank in Egypt) to help children with additional educational needs. Pakistan Tribal Area Refugees Appeal
Bihar Floods Appeal
As many as 300,000 people have been
displaced by the ongoing civil unrest in
northern Pakistan. Currently sheltering
in temporary housing, open grounds and
schools, these living conditions have become
very difficult due to the recent heavy rains.
Helping Hands is therefore launching an
urgent appeal for these displaced people.
The recent floods in Bihar, India are thought to
be the area’s worst floods in 50 years, affecting
3 million people. Officials said the death toll in
the state had risen to 90, however aid workers
say the figure is much higher and that at least
2,000 people have been killed by the flood -
an estimate based on reports from the field.

AFRICA FAMINE APPEAL
People have heard about African famine for a very long time, but African countries and international organizations have not been able to find a solution. Many countries and people have given them help, but the situation is getting worse rather than better. Africa is the poorest continent, the only one to have declined since 1960s. Bad governance and corruption have contributed to the lasting hunger crisis.
