The sufi teacher of the Darqawi order, Scottish-born Abdel Qader as-Sufi (AbdalQader al-Murabit aka Ian Dallas) passed away on 1 August in South Africa. In the 1970s he settled with young adherents in a squat near Warwick Avenue in London. Later many of his followers pursued their own paths and professions, while also retaining an enduring link with their guide. Abdel Qader had an itinerant life. with years spent in Norwich, Granada and later Cape Town. Among his books were The Way of Muhammad (1975, Diwan Press) and Root Islamic Education (1993, Madinah Press).
